SeeClickFix is great. It's not so much a reporting tool to government as a way for citizens to work together. When people post an issue, neighbors can join in and basically create a "mini blog" about it, and how they intend to resolve it.

In about half the cases, the "fix" involves an entity besides the local government.

Hey Jason,

Great point. One of the reasons we designed SeeClickFix as an open tool for anyone to report and anyone to receive alerts was because we believe that it takes much more than local government to maintain the public space.

That's why SeeClickFix fixers include utility companies, state governments, public transportation services, universities, non-profits, community groups, citizens, city council as well as local government.

Many SeeClickFix issues are about private businesses and property owners maintaining their properties and adhering to zoning ordinances.

In regards to your first comment, we try to bridge the "digital divide" by providing a phone number: 877.853.1552 for reporting issues as well.

Great! Yet another way for under-resourced and low income areas of the city to have their concerns kicked to the bottom of the list and for those who spend all day in front of computers to amplify their voice disproportionately!

Are there any plans to have SeeClickFix zoom in on crappy businesses, liquor stores, vandalized newsracks, utility boxes and other NON-public eyesores. This beating up on government is getting pretty tired.

Since 2003, the SF Neighborhood Park's Council has had ParkScan http://www.parkscan.org available for reporting problems at any of the City's parks. Anyone can pinpoint the location on an aerial map, upload photos of problems, and search/get reports on past observations. Problems are addressed by Rec and Park staff.
