No Doubt You Brought Back SF Memories .The Wharf Routine is different and more expensive now.No More Penny Arcades.Chuck E Cheese don't count. No More Playland and a Big Ugly Dogs Head across from the ZOO that sold Corpoate Hot Dogs.Dogshit Diner YUM YUM.We were so stoned we loved it.Put enough mayo and ketchup on the shit and VIOLA a Culinary or Corinary delight. The Food will always survive.Restaurants come and Go.So many Food memories too.

I can remember
Market Street when we used to Play Fascination and go to the Pool Hall. Then go to the AArcade after a Trip on the Cable Car .That was not beore a Drink at Woolworths Counter at the Cable Car stop.Hell what happened. The SRO situation is Criminl Negligence. The Revevelopment agency created many short term jobs and made friends with powerful unions.Thatis one thing Randy Shaw sees that is worth fihting for.He has done so much with THC but care not cash has ruined THCs Reputation. The Area will never be saved without compromises and harm reduction. HarmReductionCenter.blogspot.com blogs about good times and bad times.

Great article Chris. I always feel sad for Market Street when I ride down it in the am on my bike, and back up again in the pm. I admit I rarely stop to smell the roses or even do any shopping - few places to lock my bike and an intense desire to simply get off Market and to the Duboce bikeway are the contributing factors. When I run into other cyclists I know and can chat while riding it gives me a taste of what Market Street could be. I am all for a Car Lite Market Street.

san francisco really needs some public spaces in the same vein as those in manhattan which are all heavily used... especially bryant park, it is programmed with tons of uses including an outdoor reading room/library, little moveable green chairs, food kiosks, wifi, etc.

herald square is another great public space added recently to some underutilized triangular islands in manhattan

there could be some great squares like these in those odd triangular spaces where market meets the street grids.
