Just touching on some of the topics in this blog posting:

Raising rental car rates? Newsom allowed the airport to give $15 discounts to people who wanted to rent a hybrid, but rental agency representatives at the airport just simply raised the rental rate $15 (so basically Newsom's idea was just a dog and pony show).

Fee for transfers is a bad idea. I'm the only blogger expressing the bigger problem that nobody has looked into: The huge expense for Muni to restructure the POP program because those transfers are also proof of payment receipts. Muni would waste more on printing separate fare receipts, heavily modify machines that issue transfers (metro faregates and outdoor metro platforms on 3rd street and 19th avenue), and installing a second ticket/transfer holder on every single vehicle. If they want to charge for transfers, then what the heck is the use of the POP fare inspectors anyway?

Fareboxes: They were overhauled by a contractor not long ago. I haven't seen a broken one in over a few months.

Translink: I keep pushing the program. Get the entire public on it, it's on all vehicles (except Cable Cars). Muni will save tons of money and increase rider satisfaction by reducing printing of transfers and passes, and vehicles will run more efficiently because there's no line to pay the farebox and issuing paper transfers (it's all done in just a quick second on the Translink reader).

Why no discussion of state cuts or efforts to get a new fed stim program to subsidize transit operations?

I can see why an ambitious good Democrat like Paul would want to cover for Leno and Ammiano, but why would streetsblog?
