I think that Nat Ford is a talented transit administrator. The problem is that he sees himself as working for Gavin Newsom even though the Charter says different, empowering him to lead an independent agency.

If there were any arguments to be made about this issue, they have been clearly resolved politically by the Board of Supervisors. Ford can either read the writing on the walls and run an independent agency with the mission of moving people around, or he can continue to view himself as a Mayoral employee and move money around on command.

Ford has made some measurable improvements in Muni over the past few years in spite of Newsom's meddling. Imagine what he could accomplish if he saw himself in partnership with the riders, Board of Supervisors, operators and even the Mayor on a mission to provide excellent transit service instead of serving as the Mayor's political piggy bank?

They could start by taking about 50% of Ford's 300K salary

Nat Ford needs to go. The guy gets paid big bucks and offers nothing to us except new ways to waste our money (Culture Bus, anyone?) and taking credit for projects he had nothing to do with (i.e. Third St Rail.)

It's time to change the leadership.

"Ford said the parking enforcement items were taken off the table after public comment, and at the request of some supervisors and members of the MTA Board."

Because fining car owners who park illegally is outrageous when you could instead penalize those who ride Muni. Transit first my ass.

Farebox fares would double since 2003 under the MTA budget proposal that seems dead in the water. As it stands, fares have risen 50% over that time from $1 to $1.5.

What has been the rate of increase for various auto-related MTA fees over that interval?

Can't wait to watch the meeting on-line. Is this what leadership looks like?

A ratio of 4 to 1. That really seems unfair. Especially when you consider what car drivers cost the city in crashes/smashes/ and injuries. And making our streets feel unsafe. And air pollution. And wear and tear on the asphalt. And noise pollution. Let's all pay our fair share.
