Great suggestion on showing people in normal clothes. I always get a little annoyed when I see folks commuting by bicycle clad in ridiculous gear. Let's make this more accessible, cycling should not be a bourgeois activity.

The above ideas are all good. My favorites:

1) Good bicycling infrastructure. Physically separated bike lanes. Bike lanes that are smooth, not patched and seamed until riding over them is like riding over corrugated concrete. And get metal manhole and sewer covers out of the bike lanes! They're slippery and dangerous when wet!
2) Secure bike parking. As in bike lockers or a visually-supervised parking area.
3) Normal-looking people wearing normal-looking clothes. I don't understand the need to be clad all in Lycra, as if bicycling requires a demonically-high level of physical exertion. I love how in Europe men bike in suits and women bike in dresses and high heels. It's time to consider bicycling a means of transport for the masses rather than a means of recreation for the kamikaze few.
