I'm looking forward to coffee and Mexican pastries all along the route. Shop local, let's reward the welcome!

That's a pretty good idea running Sunday streets through the mission and it should be very successful.

Having just experienced Carnaval along a similar route, I wonder how the organizers plan to deal with rampant sidewalk parking. During Carnaval, DPT traffic control officers were kept busy herding cars away from blocked-off streets and basically ignored cars completely obstructing sidewalks. Since the point of Sunday Streets is to give the nonmotorized free access to our roadways for a change, I hope cars won't be allowed to take over pedestrian space.

Good work; would be nice to see the North Mission included as well, perhaps down Valencia to 16th next time, as the north west MIssion is the densest part of the district IIRC.

Baby steps, baby steps. If this route in the Mission goes well these two times, and neighbors and merchants see it as a positive and want it back - well, just imagine what it could be.

It's interesting to see Sunday Streets take so many turns along it's route. Perhaps this is part of the idea to create a 'greenway' through the neighborhood? I know a large part of the street closure is to prove to businesses that they'll get more customers, but what about parts of Folsom St, which has actually been proposed as a long bike-way?

I'm thrilled the route will include 24th street! I had been hoping it would, but I was afraid it would end up along a less well-traveled street.

This Sunday Streets will be an opportunity for the crowds that normally overflow the sidewalk to enjoy full access to the street space. I can't wait!

Thanks for the article, Matt.

I'd like to add that our second organizing meeting for the Mission is this coming Tuesday, May 26 at 6:00 at the Mission Police Station Community Room. We expect both strong supporters interested to know how to participate and skeptics to be in attendance. It would be great to see a strong turn out of Mission residents and others who support Sunday Streets at this meeting, so come by if you can.

What: Mission Sunday Streets meeting
When: Tuesday, May 26, 6:00 pm
Where: Mission SFPD Station, 630 Valencia St (at 17th)

"There used to be a feeling that on-street parking was necessary for business to thrive. But now they realize that events like Sunday Streets bring more business than could ever come by car."

Note also quotes (in today's Chron) from a business organization along Market supporting restrictions on Market St. Maybe the light is going on...
