I'd written up a resolution which would have the SF Board of Supervisors call on the feds to provide transit operating subsidy, shopped it around to a few supervisors earlier this year, and nobody bit.

The Supervisors were silent once again over taking up Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on his comment that he is open to funding bus system operating expenses -- not just capital expenses.
Further, although some of them allegedly met with Pelosi a few months ago, they were also silent about asking her to introduce an omnibus local transit funding bill - - seems that's at least as high a priority as bailing out AIG.

I'm glad to see many of the TEP service improvements have been put back in place with this budget. Good for the city; good for the planet. We need to make Muni work well enough to lure people out of their cars. If Muni is miserably crowded and infrequent, it could be free and people still would not take it. Accelerated climate change is the most serious threat we will ever face. This is less about social justice and more about the ultimate survival of the human race.

I've given up on getting people on the American left to cast a wide net. So many are steeped in the culture of fetishizing the worst off to the expense of likely un-poor allies. This is a trait unique to the American left and is bolstered by the reliance on nonprofits to carry so much burden which equates to an amplified political voice to those who get funding which can never compete with the corporate interests which fabricate empty suits like Newsom to ensure that they always get paid.

Lame and disappointing. Think of all the money Muni riders would have to contribute to these Supes' campaigns if we weren't shelling out an extra $10 a month for a Fast Pass.

"Transit Justice Package". That's fine, but whatever. The time is now to get *everyone* on the bus, and if *everyone* is demanding better MUNI service, we can make it happen. And that's good for those who need transit justice.

I'm far from transit dependent - I have the money to buy a car if I want, I have two decent legs to bike or walk, etc... I just want good transit because that's a large part of how I *want* to get around. The alliance between those who need and those who want can be very very strong. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone. I actually think couching this as a justice issue reduces the strength of the argument.
