BART owns the subway fom Embarcadero to Castro station. The only subway station Muni owns is Forest Hill. So whatever BART wants to do with the subway goes. This is also the reason why MUNI doesn't start running train service into the subway until BART starts its service.

When you list the changes that way, they do seem to have concentrated impacts on the Richmond.

Viewed more realistically, they're a combination of cuts (to the 5 and 31) and long-overdue redistribution of service to express lines (38L and 1X). A 17% increase to 38L service, which is already high frequency, is nothing to sneeze at.

It's a shame the 28L plan from the TEP isn't going to happen -- that would offer the Richmond new connectivity that might actually change commute patterns.

Jeremiah: I'm not sure what you're arguing for. Doing nothing?

Also, I would hardly call someone who lives in Richmond or Sunset, "far away". This is really a tiny city, and the inability to provide efficient transit within the city is something to question.

What's the difference between people living on 48th Ave, and people living in Brentwood or Gilroy? Everyone wants more transit options, but some are more cost effective than others. You live far away, so it takes longer to get to places.

For every BART ride made using a FastPass, Muni reimburses BART $1.02. It doesn't take long for that to start adding up, but it was estimated to be lower than what it would cost Muni to have added additional service on the parallel Mission lines were all those passengers to stop taking BART and switch to Muni.

With both BART and Muni raising their fares, additional data about where riders are coming from and going to and the service changes that will increase service on Mission Street, that equation has changed.

Paying nothing is over course a better deal, but $10 is still much less than the $75 it would cost to commute daily each way on BART for one month.

The Muni salary floor was supposed to be used to extract work rule concessions from the operators. Has this happened? I still see N operators leaving the terminal just before Caltrain arrives, three buses leaving the terminal at once, and so forth. I haven't personally noticed a reduction in missed runs. As far as I can tell, the work rules are as dumb as ever.

I don't know the history, someone can probably expound on this, but the underground MUNI in SF, is if I understand it, a tunnel that was originally supposed to be for BART - to Marin I assume.

My understanding is that MUNI pays BART when MUNI riders take BART.

Oh wow. That I did not know. So it is actually going to be $65 July 1st to get the same MUNI + BART?

Wasn't BART allowed to use MUNI ROW in exchange for giving MUNI riders use of BART within SF city limits?

2 passes. The no-BART pass, and the MUNI+SFBART pass which is $10 extra. Used to be zero dollars extra.

"and the new Fast Passes will no longer be BART-enabled. Richmond residents who take buses downtown and then transfer to BART to go to the Mission District or beyond will now have to pay an extra $10 for a pass that will also work on BART within the City."

So can you use it on BART or not? Or does BART-enabled only mean you can add fare to it?
