BT14:
All hope is lost when government agencies copyright publicly available maps, schedules, and other "proprietary" documents. Note that BART has even gone so far as to password protect pdf "All About BART" brochures (presumably to keep them out of the hands of terrorists). Nor does BART permit embedding of their "BartTV" videos (which were produced at considerable taxpayer expense).

Transit maps are the most important information resource for building ridership. If a web developer wants to incorporate a BART transit map on a website (i.e. to show customers how to reach a store), then that is something to be encouraged -- not threatened with lawsuits. Despite this one case of providing the google transit feed, BART's overall policies are so mindboggling insane, that it is clear there are far too many 1970s hanger-ons who have no clue about how the internet works.

Um, FAIL! That's a letter in regard to a website using the official BART map on their website without permission. The map is copyrighted, so they do have the right to say where it can and can't be used. The real time data this article mentions has nothing to do with the map.

Caltrain badly need to publish their location data in real time. There are regular schedule disruption. The announcement system on the platform has little use in telling passenger what to expect.
