The deeply-entrenched anti-transit is why I ultimately moved to San Francisco after 12 years of swimming against the tide in Texas. I managed to go five years without a car, commuted via DART from downtown to a suburb (Richardson), and did my best to support mass transit, but ultimately the staunch refusal to consider anything but individual automobiles as valid forms of transportation led me to move away. I hope the good people of Texas come around eventually, but in the meantime, I'll be happily getting around the SF Bay Area via BART, Muni, bike, and feet.
