About 1pm yesterday [Thursday, Feb. 24th], Newsom stood in front of a video camera in the San Jose/ Guerrero pocket park and without using notes gave a 20 minute speech on how wonderful this green, sustainable "urban oasis" was for the community and for his vision of a wonderful future for all.

Less than 24 hours later, about noon today [Friday, Feb. 25th], an OMV walked across the same park and leaned and partially squat with his back against the central large silver metal planter. He pulled his pants down to his knees and took a dump on that nice coffee/cream colored surface, about eight feet from where Newsom stood the day before. Broad daylight. The afternoon rain has washed away the urine streak but the large brown turd is still there, anyone can go verify.

Maybe someone will come clean up after this Our Most Vulnerable, maybe Gillian, maybe somebody, but most likely not. You know for sure who won't be cleaning it up: a City employee. Standard answer by a SEIU member, "That's not my job." "Who's job is it?" "I don't know, it's not mine."

Amazing news!

These parklets (nice to have an easy term for them) are so crucial because, on a whole new level, they'll bring into the consciousness of the public the possibilities of what we could have instead of parking - Park(ing) Day legitimized :D This will be a real tipping point, I think.

I think this is a wonderful program; however, I encourage you to check out a story in the San Francisco Bay Guardian regarding corporate gifts to Mayor Gavin Newsom's charities. For example, California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC), a contributor to this project, also is a major contributor to Project Homeless Connect and Sunday Streets. CPMC is currently seeking approval to build a new hospital at Geary and Van Ness. So do we have a selfless act of charity here or quid pro quo? I'd bet on the latter.

Um, who replaced Newsom with someone who cares about pedestrians? Quick, check for strings. Oh wait - he is just saying whatever is politically advantageous at the time. No wonder he can't get the name of the program right, he has 20 min to unload the political bullshit in his head and then it resets to zero. Fill him up for the next group he is going to talk to, unload the bullshit, repeat. Maybe that is why he needs days at a time in hiding. Do that too often and he might start forming opinions.

I'm really curious about the proposed "plaza" at 24th street and Noe. How is this going to work? Are they going to close the street somehow or just liberate parking spaces? Anyone know?

This is all a good trend, and I'm happy the 17th Street plaza was so successful and got this movement off the ground. I wonder if we could import Janette Sadik-Kahn from NYC for a couple months and really get public space going in SF?

Now if you were able to bring this sort of a change to an entire community and create thousands of jobs while doing it, everyone would commend you and rightly so.
