This Week in Livable Streets Events

Take it easy during the work week and prepare for an action packed, free-wheeling, rustic dining, advocacy supporting weekend. Here are the highlights from the Streetsblog calendar:

  • Saturday: Tour de Menlo. Ride to provide materials, tutoring and scholarships to disadvantaged students. Start times and difficulty levels vary to ensure everyone a fun and comfortable ride. 8:00 a.m.
  • Saturday: La Cocina SF Street Food Festival 2010. Delight in the energy and deliciousness of this local street food fest and help La Cocina remove political barriers to mobile food vending in the city. 11:00-7:00 p.m.

Keep an eye on the calendar for updated listings. Got an event we should know about? Drop us a line.

  • Caltrain to hold Public comment meetings on possibel fare increases and service cuts.

I am pretty resigned to Gilroy being cut. More information on Gilroy can be found at Save Gilroy Caltrain

I am concerned that the weekend cuts may happen unless Caltrain gets some major pushback (at which point they’d still need to get the $$$$). My perspective is that much like when Caltrain added express service on weekdays, going to express service on weekends would make Caltrain usage more compelling and increase ridership. While this has some impact in that some stops would get no service – if Caltrain ceases weekend service then NO stations would have service. Short haul trips are already serviced at higher frequency (albeit slower speed) by VTA 522 and SamTrans 295.

I am collecting support for Caltrain weekend service with a Caltrain Weekend Express Petition
