  • Utterly depressing headline set.

  • To counter the dismal headlines, try this video of fabulous bicycle infrastructure in Breda, the Netherlands. (Just knowing somewhere on the planet bicycling is this pleasant always cheers me up a bit.)

Oh come on! Ed Lee’s victory can’t be that bad.

  • I agree, Karen.  When the carnage is this bad, it’s nice to see how it could be. Here’s my very own video of an intersection in Amsterdam where cars, bikes, trams and pedestrians manage to get along safely, calmly and quietly. http://youtu.be/YqwDVaIbjbo

  • ladyfleur,

Fun video–thanks for posting it!  What struck me was 1) how few cars there were driving (though many were parked) in an obviously dense urban area, and 2) how careful and cautious the car drivers were. Maybe when you get to the point where every driver cycles him/herself or has a loved one who cycles organized chaos such as this works?  It certainly seems to work at this particular intersection.
