From East Bay Bike Party :
April East Bay Bike Party: UNDER THE SEA RIDE
Sometimes the bike lane seems too narrow, too confining. Well, you won’t have to worry about that on Second Friday, ’cause there’s plenty of room… UNDER THE SEA!
Bike Party’s going coastal! OnFriday the 13th (oooooo, scary) we’ll roll out from El Cerrito del Norte BART for a shoreline cruise through Albany and Richmond, rounding out the night with a block party at Richmond Spokes! As usual, the gathering starts and 7:30pm and roll-out is 8:00pm (or shortly after).
What to wear? The sea’s the limit! Be any fish in the alphabet, from Angel to Zebra. Come as a jellyfish (or peanut butter and jellyfish). Consider being a LUMINOUS fish – perfect for a night ride – or possibly sea monster or shark. (“You’re gonna need a bigger bike.”) And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. At this Bike Party, expect to see people channeling their inner pirates and mermaids. Heck, you might even find Nemo!
Bring cash and a bike lock, because Richmond Spokes is helping us throw a great post-ride bash. The street will be blocked off (for socializing and bike parking), we’re arranging for food options, and Linden Street Brewery has donated a keg to the cause. The cause: fundraising for Richmond Spokes – to support their bike advocacy and youth outreach as well as their AIDS LifeCycle riders. You can read more about what they do by clicking here .
Bike Party works because of the culture, which you’re actively creating when you ride. If you can volunteer, great! We love that. (Just look for the volunteer coordinator pre-ride.) But even more important is keeping the culture alive by swimming with the rest of the school, like so:
- Stay Right
- Stop at Lights
- Ride Straight
- Don’t Hate
- Pack Your Trash
- Don’t Get Smashed (i.e. Ride Sober)
Follow these guidelines, and we can avoid collisions and accompanying cries of, “You sank my battleship!”
NOTE: Facebook has disabled the ability of a group to invite all its members at once, so make sure to SPREAD THE WORD to your friends by INVITING them to this ride.
There’s no excuse for staying home on Second Friday. As we say, “Don’t be a hermit, be a hermit crab… UNDER THE SEA!”
