This Week: Will Board of Supes Approve 8 Washington?

Tomorrow, the Board of Supervisors could greenlight the parking-saturated 8 Washington projects. On Wednesday, help shape the SF Planning Department’s plans for development along the Central Subway corridor on Fourth Street, and Thursday’s SPUR forum will look at curbing suburban sprawl in the Bay Area.

Here are all the highlights from the Streetsblog calendar [1]:

  • MondayCatalyzing Change: Revitalizing Oakland’s Broadway-Valdez District [2]. Join the Greenbelt Alliance for a discussion on “innovative ways of catalyzing revitalization” in Oakland’s Broadway-Valdez District as the city prepares to release a draft plan for the area this fall. 6 p.m.
  • TuesdaySF Board of Supervisors Meeting [3]. The board could give final approval for the 8 Washington [4] project and the 400-space parking garage it would include. 2 p.m.
  • WednesdayCentral Corridor Plan Public Meeting [5]. As the SFMTA moves ahead with constructing the Central Subway, the SF Planning Department is looking for public input on its plans for future development and street improvements along a stretch of 4th Street known as the Central Corridor, which will be served by subway stations. 6 p.m.
  • ThursdayBART Board of Directors [6]. BART staff is expected to present the BART Bicycle Access Plan, and the board is set to adopt its 2013 budget. 9 a.m.
  • Also ThursdaySPUR: Toward a Grand Regional Bargain? [7] Join SPUR for a discussion with regional and local planning leaders on what will it take to curb the Bay Area’s pattern of sprawling growth and instead focus it in the transit-rich core. 12:30 p.m.
  • FridaySFMTA Engineering Hearing [8]. The agenda includes proposals to re-open a crosswalks on Sunset Blvd. at Ulloa St. in the Outer Sunset and at 18th St. and Market St. in Noe Valley (along with a bulb-out), as well as bulb-outs at San Bruno Ave. and Burrows St. 10 a.m.
  • SaturdaySFBC Connecting the City Ride: America’s Cup and Bay Trail Bikeway: South [9]. Join the SF Bicycle Coalition for a ride along the southern section of the Bay Trail and learn about plans “to lift this key Connecting the City route to a top-notch biking experience for everyone.” 10 a.m.
  • Also SaturdayMean Streets, Green Streets: SoMa Walk [10]. Join Walk SF and the Planning Department’s Green Connections project to explore some of SoMa’s alleyways, visit a park and its “beautiful community gardens” and discuss how to make these important pedestrian connections “greener, safer, and more welcoming for everyone.” 1 p.m.
