    Examiner’s Central Subway story is full of misinformation. I’ll need to parse through it before I properly respond, but wow that is a poorly written. He could of come to the meetings in NB.

    Work will only take place between Union and Filbert on Columbus. It will start within the month (no exact date yet). First 6 months will be utility relocation taking 1 lane at a time and only from 7am – 4pm. Then in March 2013, 18 months of work will begin to build the extraction box. This will be a 24-7 2 lane closure starting on the NB side of Columbus for 9 months, then switching over to the SB side.

    Interesting to see the exact retrieval shaft location (slide 9). Looks like there is room to add a surface North Beach/Washington Square station northwest of the tunnel entrance.

    There has been talk of using that worthless triangle at Union/Powell/Columbus as a station, but instead that stub of Powell will continue to be poorly lighted and cut off from the neighborhood (I feel for Bottle Cap).

    But really, just wait til the 30/45 get service slashed (not to mention the rest of Muni). Cow Hollow, Russian Hill, Marina and North Beach will all see reduced service due to the Central Subway. Then add in the fact that no one in Chinatown is going to use the CS because it is 90′ underground and poorly connects w/ Market Street underground.

    But some folks are gonna get real rich. Real real rich. Then comes the real estate land grab!

    That would be very annoying. It’s already annoying having to use the browser based Google Maps app for the bike layer/directions while out cycling. Why can’t they just admit that Google wins when it comes to online maps?

    The Central Subway would (or will, if actually completed) link the area of its Chinatown station with Union Square, the Caltrain depot, Mission Bay, and the rest of the T-Third south from there, better than the 30/45 does now.  Only the 30/45 will still need to run to take care of north/west of Chinatown, Chinatown other than near the CS station, and trips to Market Street.  Overall demand will go up with the station environs being more developed than now.  Lots of this will be demand for the 30/45.

    If you love the Central Subway, love the 30/45, as much needed with the Central Subway as without it.

    That really doesn’t make all that much sense. Before the T-Third, the 15-Third line did a better job and had a better downtown connect. And the CS will have a huge operating expense, where will that money come from? It’ll come from other lines around Muni, starting first with ones that the SFMTA considers duplicate, eg 30/45/8x. They haven’t denied this when I’ve asked them, the Stockton corridor will receive less bus service after the CS is built.
