From East Bay Bicycle Coalition [1]:

Your volunteer help is much needed with three important outreach campaigns to get bike lanes built on major corridors in Oakland in 2013. Oakland is ready to study bikeways on 3 key bike routes, and is considering removing travel lanes to make room for the bike lanes. The streets are:
These bike lanes will link the neighborhoods of North Oakland, West Oakland and Central Oakland to Downtown. We expect opposition to the removal of travel lanes on these streets and that is why your help is critical. Volunteers like you help us build the necessary support to convince City Council to move forward and make it safe for you to ride into and out of Downtown.
There is much work to do.
The most fun part is deciding exactly what we want the bike lanes to look like on each street, and that work starts at our Jan 30 Kick Off Meeting. We also need to organize for outreach to neighborhood groups and businesses, conduct bike rides and events along these corridors to make ourselves seen, set up meetings with City Council members, and much more.
RSVP on Facebook [5] and we’ll see you on Jan 30. Snacks and refreshments provided.
