The Caltrain right of way divides thriving SOMA from emerging Mission Bay. Can the Downtown Extension (DTX) and High Speed Rail also help reconnect the city and enable the creation of new neighborhoods? Should the 4th and King station be moved to make room for development? How soon can the tracks be extended to downtown, serving many more commuters and local trips, and bringing High Speed Rail into San Francisco.

Is the current DTX design the most effective practical option, or are there opportunities to save cost and shave time from the trip to Los Angeles? The City of San Francisco is considering big changes to how Caltrain and High Speed Rail access and serve San Francisco. Come for a lively panel discussion and debate about the future of the rail corridor in San Francisco.

Come to San Francisco City Hall Plaza at noon on May 23 to greet the triumphant return ofTransForm’s Carbon Crusher Climate Riders on the last leg of their 320-mile bicycle journey.

May 23 is the fifth and final day of a ride that will take our nine riders through the redwoods of Humboldt County, up infamous Leggett Hill, through wine country on a 100-mile pedaling day, and across the Golden Gate Bridge – all to raise money for TransForm’s work.

Paul Hawken will address the crowd, and we’ll hear the road tales of Climate Riders too. We’d love to have some supporters cheering on our hard-working team as they all ride in together to the finish line.

And of course, it’s not too late to donate and support the team.

Bike on!

Don’t Miss Your Chance to Make Second Street More Walkable

Your Voice is Needed

Second Street is an important street for walking, biking, transit, and could be a great Green Connection for SOMA. Throngs of people already head on foot to the ballpark for every game. The street desperately needs wider sidewalks, safe crossings, and protections from left-turning cars, especially cars cutting through the neighborhood to the freeway.Check out the new design, with wider sidewalks (finally!) along both sides(thanks to community and Walk SF advocacy!). Plus there are raised crosswalks at all the alleys, new crossings with traffic lights, a pedestrian head start at intersections, and no left turns (which are very dangerous for people on foot).

The design will calm traffic with separated bike lanes that will help narrow the roadway and reduce traffic speeds. The design could still use more greening and better buffers between cars and bikes. Come see what you think and speak up!

Attend the final community meeting where the SFMTA will present design plans for the Second Street Improvement Project from Market to King.

Sunday Streets is a series of events put on by the City of San Francisco in partnership with the non-profit Livable City, to encourage health, community and fun, inspired by similar events in cities throughout the world. A Sunday Streets event creates a large, temporary, public space by closing off stretches of a neighborhood’s streets to automobile traffic, and opening them to pedestrians, bicyclists, and activities for several hours on a predetermined Sunday.

We are returning to the Bayview/Dogpatch, and the route is the same as last year: Northbound 3rd Street lanes between Newcomb and 22nd Street; 22nd Street between 3rd and Indiana; Indiana Street between 22nd and Mariposa Streets; Mariposa from Indiana to Terry Francois, Terry Francois from Mariposa to 3rd Street, 3rd Street bridge to King and 3rd.
