What Should San Francisco Do to Make the MTA More Accountable?
In the lead up to the November 3, 1999 election, more than a year after a massive Muni meltdown and with ridership low, Proposition E was sold as a way to make Muni more accountable and set higher enforceable standards for service. It was also meant to improve street management and put more detailed transit-first language in the city charter. Eyes on the Street: Green EV Stripe Becomes Green “Bike Lane”
A stenciler was at work in front of San Francisco City Hall recently, painting over the green "showcase" stripe for two plug-in electric vehicles (EV) to reflect what the true green vehicle is: the bike. We do know the MTA is testing green bike lanes at one of its Muni yards, and will probably roll out an experiment sometime after the injunction is lifted. The Presidio Trust, meantime, is conducting a green lane experiment on one of its bike lanes, and Brisbane has installed a blue bike lane on what has become a dangerous stretch of road for cyclists.

Caltrain to Update Its Plan to Increase Bike Capacity
It's been one month since the Caltrain Board of Directors approved a plan to increase bicycle capacity on its trains, a move advocates welcomed but felt didn't go far enough because it won't entirely prevent bicyclists from getting bumped.
