Different Spokes Monthly Jersey Ride
"Come join Different Spokes (DSSF), the San Francisco Bay Area's GLBT cycling club for our monthly Jersey Ride, held the second Saturday of each month. All are welcome. The ride offers different distance and level options. The ride starts from Peet's in the Castro. There are three options so you can go at your own pace and distance. The rides split and regroup in Tiburon where we have lunch together as a group. Rain cancels."

Valencia Project Will Bring Improvements Worth the Short-Term Headaches

Eyes on the Street: The Mean Sidewalks of San Francisco
San Francisco is renowned for the beauty of its its Victorian homes almost as much as its rugged seaside setting. But with most buildings in the city, the architectural grace starts at the second level. For pedestrians walking down the street, seeing buildings the way most people actually see them, the view is not always so pretty. The main culprits, as the photo above illustrates, are garages and curb cuts.

SMART to Use Heavier Rail Cars
The Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) Board, in a 9-2 vote, has elected to use heavier, American-made rail cars instead of lighter, quieter, low-floored, European-made models that some of the directors originally favored.

MTA Board Discusses Revenue Options to Cover $1 Billion Five-Year Shortfall
Facing a projected net deficit of over $1 billion by 2015, the MTA Board of Directors held a workshop today to consider potential new sources of revenue for the agency. MTA Chief Financial Officer Sonali Bose presented a variety of options (slideshow PDF), ranging from cruise ship fees to parking congestion impact fees, many of which have been discussed at previous MTA meetings.
