Mayor Gavin Newsom has released a statement in coordination with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and the San Francisco Police Department condemning the vehicular assault on four cyclists in San Francisco by a driver who went on a rampage last night, injuring four and sending three to the hospital in the span of a few minutes.

SFMTA Approves New On-Street Bicycle Parking
When the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which runs Muni, instituted the sweeping December 5th service changes and eliminated several bus routes, including the 26-Valencia, bicycle advocates immediately raised the question of what would be done with the now abandoned bus stop spaces. Would they be turned over to cars as free parking, would the SFMTA add new meters, or would the agency perhaps consider the space as a testing ground for innovative on-street bicycle parking, what Portlanders know and love as "Bike Corrals"?

Senate GOP Continues to Resist Sanctions-Based Distracted Driving Rules
The Senate environment committee's senior Republican yesterday joined
his counterpart on the commerce panel in criticizing legislation
that would withhold federal highway funding from states that fail to
crack down on distracted driving, casting doubt on Congress' ability to
approve any punitive approach to reining in texting and cell phone use
by drivers.
