Proposed Van Ness BRT Design Would Combine the Best of Both Options
Planners have settled on a design for San Francisco's first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route on Van Ness Avenue. The result is a plan that combines the benefits of both proposed center-running options to keep construction costs relatively low while allowing Muni flexible use of its bus fleet to serve the line.

East Bay BRT EIR Approved, Final Agreements Set for June
Bus rapid transit (BRT) between Oakland and San Leandro in the East Bay cleared a major hurdle this week after AC Transit unanimously approved the project's environmental impact report. Agreements with the cities of Oakland and San Leandro must still be finalized in June before the project can officially break ground.

SFMTA Brings Humane, Two-Way Traffic Back to Ellis and Eddy
The SFMTA began converting several blocks of Ellis and Eddy to two-way streets in the Tenderloin last week. The conversion is expected to calm motor traffic on the former multi-lane, one-way arterial streets designed to rush car traffic through one of the city's densest neighborhoods.

More From Yesterday’s Hearing on Sunday Meters and Free Muni for Youth
The SFMTA Board of Directors yesterday approved a two-year budget that calls for parking meter enforcement on Sundays and free Muni passes for low-income youth. The budget must still be approved by the Board of Supervisors before it goes into effect on July 1.

New Car-Free GG Park Sunday Streets Route Kicks Off This Weekend
Head out to the Avenues for some car-free action this weekend at Sunday Streets in Golden Gate Park and the Great Highway. Don't forget: the route through Golden Gate Park is slightly different this year. At Transverse Drive, the route switches over from John F. Kennedy Drive to Martin Luther King along the western section.

Bike Lane Progress on JFK, Bayshore, Cesar Chavez, and Cargo Way
Bike network expansions are going in at a rapid clip so far this spring. In Golden Gate Park, parking-protected bike lanes on John F. Kennedy Drive are mostly finished on the stretch in front of the Conservatory of Flowers, and drivers already seem to be picking up on the new parking arrangement.
