I rode the Rapid 522 in San Jose this weekend and didn’t notice any congestion in the car lanes. Just the usual traffic that Sat afternoon. I wonder it it’s different during weekday peak hours. This is the only example of median bus lanes in the Bay Area, for now. There’s going to be an adjustment period.

It is possible that there’s more congestion during the morning rush. But San Joseans do have a inclination for exaggeration when describing inconveniences. A handy translator:

“Cars are backed up to X” == “Normally there’s nobody waiting at the light at X, now there is”
“I can’t back out of my driveway” == “Once I had to wait a minute for traffic to clear before backing out”

“There’s no parking” == “I cannot always park right in front of my destination” (and for some reason this never applies to shopping malls)
“It is a traffic nightmare” == “I can’t drive as fast as before”
