Finally, Some Good News for Philly Cyclists
There's been a lot of bicycle news coming out of Philadelphia recently, and it hasn't all been good. Two pedestrians were killed in October by bike riders, including one hit-and-run incident. Those crashes led to a controversial proposal to register bikes and to jack up the fines for bikes without brakes.

‘Cash for Clunkers’ Backer Sutton Steps it Up for Ohio Transit
Rep. Betty Sutton (D-OH) was one of the prime movers behind the economically and environmentally misguided "cash for clunkers" program, but she is switching gears to help save transit in Lorain County, Ohio, where bus service could be canceled in 2010 after voters rejected a sales tax increase to raise operating funds.

Engineers Lay Out Costs of Reopening Alto Tunnel to Bicyclists
Addressing a crowd of more than 100 people Wednesday, engineers said it could cost $40 million to $52 million to reopen the crumbling 125-year-old railroad tunnel between Mill Valley and Corte Madera for cyclists.

BART Selects Parsons Transportation Team for Oakland Airport Connector
BART staff has announced the selection of the Parsons/Flatiron development team for the construction of its Oakland Airport Connector (OAC) and will ask its board today to approve the $492 million dollar contract to build the 3.2-mile elevated people mover. Due to the recession and lower construction costs, the OAC proposal comes in at $60 million less than BART had originally assumed it would cost when federal stimulus funds jump started the then-defunct project early this year.
