SPUR Evening Forum: Rising Tides: The Winners
"This summer, the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission, AIA San Francisco and other partners hosted an international design competition for ideas about how cities can prepare for and adapt to sea level riseāone of the most critical impacts of global warming. Competition entries ranged from imaginative ways to live on (or in) water to practical engineering strategies for adapting buildings and infrastructure for floods. Some proposals simply suggested moving coastal city dwellers to higher and drier ground.

Eyes on the Street: Hit-and-Run Intersection Hazardous to Pedestrians
Details are still trickling in about last Tuesday's hit-and-run crash near the intersection of Van Ness Avenue and California Street that left a 31-year-old San Francisco woman in the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but a visit to the intersection revealed plenty of hazards to pedestrians that could easily result in future injuries.

BART Commuters Weigh Their Options as Strike Looms
BART riders braced themselves today as word got out that train service will shut down Monday due to a strike. At Montgomery Station in San Francisco, riders expressed mixed feelings about the politics of the strike, but they were unanimous on one thing: the commute is going to be a pain.

BART Strike Likely To Overwhelm Other Transit Agencies
A BART strike will leave hundreds of thousands of riders in search of an alternate commute on Monday. Since most of the region's largest transit agencies are already operating near capacity during peak hours, new riders - as well as current riders - will have to squeeze onto already-crowded buses and trains.

SFPD Seeks Information in Life-Threatening Hit-and-Run
A pedestrian is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a hit-and-run collision yesterday. SFPD spokesperson Sgt. Lyn Tomioka said the collision occurred near California Street and Van Ness Avenue at 8:20 p.m. The driver was believed to be in a white pickup truck. A license plate number was not available.
