Subsidence Walking Tour

From SPUR:

There are many ways in which San Francisco is constantly on the move. One of these is ongoing subsidence: the motion of the Earth’s surface due to geological changes. Join geologist David Schwartz of the United States Geological Survey for a walk through the South of Market neighborhood on former marshland covered in the late 1800s.  As we wind in and out of the side streets you will see evidence of subsidence such as garages and entrance doors below street level, changes in street grade, and broad swales in streets, with Howard Street being a primary example. This event is generously supported by Degenkolb Engineering.

This tour will last from 12:00pm to approximately 2:00pm.

$10. Limit 25 people
