Learn About Opportunities for Accessibility, Livability, Equity in S.B. 1 Funding Plans

2:18 PM PDT on June 30, 2017

A coalition of advocacy groups working on transportation equity issues is organizing a webinar to explore and discuss some of the opportunities presented by S.B. 1, the transportation funding bill recently passed by the California legislature.

Streetsblog has covered some of the planning that has begun for programs funded by the bill, which include planning grants and a new Congested Corridors program, and established programs such as the State Highway Operations and Protection Program (SHOPP), the main source of funding for state highway maintenance for many years.

The California Bicycle Coalition, ClimatePlan, Coalition for Clean Air, Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability, PolicyLink, and TransForm have been working to ensure that considerations of equity, accessibility, livability, and other community benefits are incorporated into the programs from the beginning.

Jared Sanchez, Policy Associate at CalBike, says that the webinar is open to anyone who is interested. The organizers want to share information as well as gather input from people throughout the state on what other considerations should be included as the state formulates guidelines for these programs.

The webinar will be presented on Monday, July 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Register ahead of time here to get details..
