  • re: MUNI
What did Muni do with the train operators of the lines that were shut down? Are they sitting pretty chatting about their kids and fleecing SF taxpayers or have they been put to use elsewhere in the system?

Perhaps Reiskin, Haley et al should be paid the percentage of their salaries equal to the on time performance figures. Seriously, the driver shortage–whether because of stupidity or as in past years stealth service cuts in order to have a smoke and mirrors budget–should cause empty desks. The creation of the SFMTA was supposed to insulate Muni from ‘politica’; we still have rampant incompetence, lousy service and ever higher budgets.

By insulating SFMTA from politics, we’ve created an agency with zero accountability. The Board of Supervisors doesn’t care, because they can just throw up their hands and say “not us” (yet when they want to, say, block bikeshare in their districts, somehow SFMTA is completely exposed to political meddling). The SFMTA board doesn’t care, because nobody has ever heard of it or knows who’s on it. The entire system is designed so nobody can possibly get fired for doing a bad job.

  • Jeffrey Baker

It doesn’t work that way! Drivers sign up for divisions and runs and cannot be reassigned.

  • Good Lord I hope you’re kidding.
