J-Church Rail Replacement Time Lapse Movie
If a picture is worth a thousand words, these thousands of pictures are worth exponentially more. Ken Murphy, who lives on 30th Street at the intersection of Church Street, made this time-lapse movie of the Muni rail replacement project and set it to a decidedly Wes Anderson-esque score. No matter if you read the post I wrote earlier today, I recommend you watch this. It's a strange insect-like dance, condensing nearly three days into 13 minutes.

Eyes on the Street: Replacing the Rails on the J-Church Line
Taking advantage of a long weekend, a capital construction crew of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which runs Muni, spent three frenzied days working around the clock to replace aging J-Church tracks at the intersection of Church and 30th streets.

Promoting Health and Physical Activity Among Children on Walk to School Day
With childhood obesity a growing national epidemic, it is surprising that more parents don't walk to school with their kids or organize amongst neighbors to encourage physical activity as part of the daily routine. Though San Francisco has extensive public transit and is quite walkable, the current school assignment policy results in longer school commutes, a problem city officials and advocates for increased walking blame in part for children not getting enough daily exercise.

San Francisco, Oakland Move up National List of Bicycle Commuting Cities
Despite a four-year bicycle injunction starting in 2006, San Francisco's share of bicycle commuting has risen, lifting the city to 4th on the League of American Bicyclists' (LAB) list of 70 largest American cities, while Oakland rose two spaces to 5th. The list is compiled each year from data collected by the Census Bureau as part of its American Community Survey (ACS).

California High Speed Rail Authority Gives Itself an Online Facelift
As California's high speed rail project continues to gain attention, both positive and negative, the makeup of visitors to the official website has been shifting, with an increasing number of general public who know very little about the project, according to the California High Speed Rail Authority (CAHSRA). In response to this trend and based on thousands of user surveys and feedback from 13 focus groups, the CAHSRA redesigned its website as a portal it hopes will be more user friendly, intuitive and useful to a wide range of interested public.
