Market Bike Counter: 3,231 Cyclists in a Day — And That’s an Underestimate
San Francisco's first digital bicycle counter was activated on Bike to Work Day yesterday, and the day's official total was 3,231 cyclists on Market Street. But that's probably a significant underestimate, since many bike riders on that block choose to ride outside the bike lane where the ground sensors were installed. Many riders seem to prefer to ride in the adjacent traffic lane, which was closed to cars in 2009.

SFMTA Delays Ped/Bike Safety Measures on Fell and Oak Yet Again
The partially completed project to add safety measures like protected bike lanes and pedestrian bulb-outs on three blocks Fell and Oak Streets has once again been delayed by the SF Municipal Transportation Agency. Though the project was originally scheduled to be completed by spring or summer, the agency now says components like the protected bike lane on Oak, bicycle traffic signals, slower signal timing, and concrete planters separating the bike lanes from motor traffic may not go in until the end of the year.

As Bike-Share Pilot Lurches Along, Supe Wiener Calls for Full-Scale Launch
While San Franciscans eagerly await the repeatedly-delayed launch of the Bay Area's small-scale bike-share pilot program, which has now been downsized to a minuscule 700 bikes (350 of them in SF), Supervisor Scott Wiener says San Francisco needs to take the initiative to move ahead and launch a "full-scale system" throughout the city by next year.
