The San Francisco County Transportation Authority (CTA) authorized $1 million Tuesday to fund the Golden Gate Greenway, a project to close lanes on a block of the street in the Tenderloin to provide some much-needed green space on a permanent basis. From a release from Supervisor Dean Preston, who sits on the CTA and represents the district:

Officials talk about how important it is to provide open space for the kids of the Tenderloin. But then they block projects that might touch the political third rail of removing parking

"It'd be so easy to protect cyclists... But they just don't."

Will the eastern half of J.F.K. Drive remain car free? That's the question behind a new outreach effort, launched Tuesday by SFMTA and Rec and Park, to determine what people want the future of Golden Gate Park to look like

SF's first parking-protected bike lane outside of Golden Gate Park is open for business on 13th Street. The lane runs westbound on 13th, connecting existing bike lanes between Bryant Street and Folsom Street, underneath the Central Freeway.

The SFMTA has completed its first wave of safety upgrades on Upper Market Street. The changes include painted sidewalk extensions (a.k.a. "safety zones"), high-visibility crosswalks, and signs prohibiting drivers from turning right at red lights.
