From EBBC:

From EBBC:

The East Bay Bicycle Coalition and the Fast Freddie Foundation jointly announce a “Bridge the Bay Benefit” aiming to raise awareness and support for the Bay Bridge Pathway for cyclists and pedestrians; to promote the EBBC’s mission of making the East Bay more bicycle friendly; and to support the Fast Freddie Foundation’s goal of encouraging young cyclists.

Open to the public, a $20 admission fee at the door ($10 for students) includes dinner, entertainment, live and silent auctions, a photo exhibit of the EBBC’s 28-year-old history, and a chance to meet EBBC’s new executive director, Renee Rivera, and the new board, which includes “Fast” Freddie Rodriguez, three-time national road champion and Tour de France racer. Also attending are mayors, legislators, transportation officials, bicycle clubs, and racing clubs from the 33 cities in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Free bicycle parking will be available at the new Berkeley Bike Station on Shattuck, just north of Allston Way and one block from the benefit.

Sponsors include The Bread Workshop of Berkeley; Clif Bar wines; New Belgium Beer; and auction items donated by Specialized, Trek, REI, Dahon, Mike’s Bikes, Raleigh, Missing Link, and Yuba as well as a Backroads trip gift certificate, Holly Bike Hitch Rack, Adam’s Original Bike Trailer, Linda Svensen Bike Prints, and a private bike tour of the East Bay with “Fast” Freddie Rodriguez. Cash sponsors include Fehr & Peers and Alta Planning. Bike rapper Daniel Yasmin and accompanist Paul Bertin will play music on bicycle parts and saxophone.

EBBC Executive Director Renee Rivera, former interim ED of the SF Bike Coalition, says, “At the East Bay Bicycle Coalition we are bringing together decision makers from across the East Bay with luminaries from the bicycle racing world to ‘Bridge the Bay,’ building connections for the increasing numbers of people who bike to work, to school, to shop and to play.”

About the Fast Freddie Foundation

The Fast Freddie Foundation (FFF), founded by EBBC board member and Tour de France racer Freddie Rodriguez, aims to support young cyclists in achieving their goals in cycling and beyond. FFF will create cycling programs and also support youth cycling teams and league with the objective of emphasizing education and community responsibility as keys to achieving success, both on and off the bike.
