East Bay Bike Party

From East Bay Bike Party:

Join the East Bay’s largest rolling party every second Friday.

GREEN is everywhere and this month, Bike Party, wants you to GO GREEN and celebrate this fabulous color with us!

The costume spectrum is endless, so let you minds wander and have fun with it!

Let’s make this a GREENtastic bike party!

You could be a character like The Leprechaun from those terrible horror movies in the 90s, the Green Lantern, The Hulk.. four friends could be The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or question our sanity as The Riddler.

GREEN is alive in the animal kingdom! Turtles, frogs, and toads, oh my.. snakes are GREEN and so are centipedes, spiders, lizards, and fish… personally, I’ll be praying to see a mantis costume!

There are so many shades of GREEN you could go wild and try to wear them all at once, or dazzle us showing up in GREEN paint from head to toe.

So go out and GREEN lights to adorn your bike with and lets make everyone else that sees us GREEN WITH ENVY as they watch us roll by, hootin’ and hollerin’ and have a greend ol time 🙂

-INVITE WISELY: If you’re inviting friends, make sure that they think that safety is sexy, know the Bike Party code, and arrive at the start of the ride sober

-PICK UP YOUR TRASH: This one’s simple – if you brought it in or ate/drank it, you pack out the can/wrapper/trash with you.

-VOLUNTEER: Volunteer to take a corner and lead the Bike Party through a turn.

-COME PREPARED: This is an unsupported ride, so bring whatever you’d bring if you went on a long solo ride. A patch kit and a bike tool are a good start. If you’re with friends, make sure that at least one of them has things you might need (including a wrench, if you ride a fixie)

-KNOW THE CODE: If you come out this Friday, this is what the people around you will expect. And you’ll make more friends if you ride safely. Making friends and meeting new people is what this ride is about, after all:

Stay Right
Stop At Lights (while this is a green party, please STOP at RED)
Ride Straight
Don’t Hate
Pack Your Trash
Don’t Get Smashed

See you Friday, you sexy green machine! BIKE PARTY!!!

Telegraph Avenue in Oakland is finally getting its long-awaited separated bike lanes. Crews were out adding the first touches of green paint. In the next week or so, they will continue painting the section of Telegraph between 21st and 27th, Oakland’s first experiment with parking-separated bike lanes. Bike East Bay will have ambassadors on the […]

A Rose By Another Name: San Jose’s Bike Party

A crowd assembles at the beginning of San Jose Bike Party, April 16, 2010. Let’s just say right away that Critical Mass is a bike party, and the San Jose Bike Party has a lot more similarities to Critical Mass than differences. A half-dozen San Francisco and Berkeley Critical Mass veterans took a field trip […]

Checking out Oakland Bike Infrastructure with WOBO

Streetsblog did a survey tour of Oakland bike infrastructure last Friday with Walk Oakland Bike Oakland (WOBO) president Chris Hwang. The group’s mission statement, from its web page, is a familiar one for safe-streets advocates: “We want every person who lives, plays, and works in Oakland to feel safe and comfortable walking and bicycling, and that they know how to […]
