Sadly, it isn’t slow. However, SFAppeal keeps with the times and gives us pretty much NO information.

The police originally reported that the cyclist was a man. I wonder if this was due to a bias that all cyclists are men so they just assumed that’s who it was.

Either way, this is really awful and I hope we can get more info on the crash, other than what an “unfortunate accident” it was. This is a few blocks away from where Melissa Kittoch (sp?) was killed as a pedestrian when hit by two car drivers at 8th and Howard. 6th street is one of the most lethal streets in the city for pedestrians (and bikes too).

    Sounds like a right-hook involving a truck:

The original SFAppeal story describes it as a big rig.

This story is tragic and unnecessary. First, how have we not improved the safety of bike facilities that run next to heavy truck traffic? Second, why do we not have mixing zones at ALL intersections where we have bike lanes, similar to the ones on Fell/Oak and JFK? This would remove a small amount of parking, but might also have saved this woman’s life.

Again, another scantily detailed story from SFAppeal.

Let’s see which crash today garners the most media attention.

Not that I expect it from every reader, but comparing the two stories: bikes injure, cars [trucks] kill

It sounds like she was right-hooked by the big-rig. Outlets are reporting that they were both traveling east on Folsom and that that incident occurred when the truck attempted a right turn.

Yeah, I saw some more articles. Driver stayed at the scene and cooperated so it’s probably going to be added to the thousands of other “unfortunate accidents” or it’s the fault of the cyclist. I wonder what the police are going to say.

the cyclist was injured by the pedestrian 🙂
