A.B. 645, the speed camera bill, was signed into law earlier this month. Now SFMTA says it needs another year just to study where to put them.

Transit is much safer than driving. That's just a fact. Nevertheless, if people don't feel safe, statistics still won't get them on the train or bus if given a choice. But how do transit agencies make trains and buses feel safe for everyone, given the various backgrounds of different riders?

Rumors were already circulating, but Wednesday afternoon Jannelle Wong, Executive Director of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition since April of 2022 (she served as interim director before that), announced that she will step down. From Wong's announcement email:

Governor Newsom signed A.B. 413 into law on Tuesday. As explained in the Tweet below from the advocates at Los Angeles-based Streets for All, A.B. 413 will, in theory, make it illegal in California to park "within twenty feet of the vehicle approach side of any marked or unmarked crosswalk or within fifteen feet of any crosswalk where a curb extension is present."
