“’We can’t get everyone where they want, when they want,’ said Farhad Mansourian, SMART’s general manager…”

  • John Murphy

Farhad is correct, so for example, it might not be a very good use of their investment to make sure there is a train back to Sonoma County at 1 AM so people who went to the Giants games can take a Ferry to Larkspur and then get a train.

But… the riders that SMART are dissing are the MOST IMPORTANT ones! There is a 90 minute gap in arrivals in San Rafael. A train arrives at 7:26 and 8:56. A director noticed this immediately and pressed Farhad on it – “most people think of jobs as 9-5, how does this schedule work for that?” He said “There is a train that gets you there at 7:26”. So you get to hang around in San Rafael for longer than your entire commute. Tone deaf.

  • Jeffrey Baker

The ridership numbers with this schedule are going to be indistinguishable from zero, arming SMART’s opponents with hard data. It could set back the extension to Larkspur.
