    Are we not surprised by this news? As for the extension itself, it’s hardly going to make a noticeable dent in relieving road congestion. They are commuter rail stations surrounded by parking. Any statistics on whether the roadways improved after Warm Springs opened?

    Relieving roadway congestion shouldn’t be the most important metric of a transit expansion’s success.

    Logic would suggest that there would be more traffic in the immediate vicinity of the BART station, but less congestion elsewhere because those drivers are now making short trips to the station rather than long trips to their ultimate destination.

    Throughput and capacity are legitimate aims of any transportation authority.

    BART has no jurisdiction over roadways. And even though transit services/expansions are often sold as relieving congestion, that’s really not something we should be expecting them to do, since freeways re-congest themselves.
