Willy Wonka’s Recycling Factory Bicycle Ride

"A rare opportunity to tour the Pier 96 Recology Recycle Central recycling plant! This tour will explore the essence of recycling, a big mixed up pile on one end, whirring spinning machines and workers in the middle, with recycled commodities ready for market at the end.

With one of the highest recycling rates in the country more than 70% of the San Francisco’s waste is currently being diverted away from landfills toward better outcomes. One reason for our success is that recycling is so easy here. We simply put all our recyclables in the blue bin. But once these things are mixed up in the blue bins they have to be sorted out into their constituent streams so they can be sent to paper mills, smelters, factories, and other markets to be reborn into something useful.

This ride is sponsored by the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition.”
