As part of its series on Bay Area accomplishments, New York-based Streetfilms dropped a great piece about the JFK Promenade and the Great Highway Park for the weekend. As producer/host Clarence Eckerson put it, it was impossible not to smile riding on such beautiful, peaceful car-free space. That really comes across in “Celebrating Car-Free JFK Promenade and Great Highway Park,” the video embedded below.

Streetsblog can think of no better way to celebrate this first weekend of August than by watching this great little film of people enjoying the fruits of decades of hard work. Car-free J.F.K. and the Great Highway Park are real indications of what can be accomplished when advocates, both professional and volunteer, stay focused on core values and resist the temptation to settle for false, “better than nothing” solutions.

Enjoy the movie. And then take a bike ride or a stroll this weekend on one of the many car-free spaces now available in the Bay Area. You’ve earned it!
