Why do the J and the K turn around at Balboa and head back downtown the way they came, rather than continuing on each other's alignments? Wouldn't the service be more useful if, even if they had to pause for a few minutes at Balboa to maintain schedules, the two lines were combined?

Another Bad Crash as Embarcadero Safety Project Languishes
A hit-and-run driver slammed into a pedicab yesterday on the Embarcadero near Pier 29, sometime before 5 p.m., injuring a family, including two children. From the Fire Department's news feed, the victims sustained "serious injuries" and included a "five and an eight-year-old." It was later clarified that only the pedicab driver sustained life-threatening injuries, according to a report by CBS.

SFMTA Cuts Bike Lane from Planned Sixth Street Safety Improvements
Streetsblog tipster and advocate Brian Coyne brought this to our attention: "SFMTA's Sixth Street Safety Project, which Streetsblog has covered several times over the last few years, has now had the bike lane component removed." The plan, as shown on the agency's project page, is now to remove the bike facility and add an additional northbound car lane to the design.
