Last night, SFMTA held an open house at Lick Wilmerding High School to get community suggestions on what to do about the mess of tracks, ramps, road and pedestrian crossings on and around the intersection of Geneva and San Jose, adjacent to the Balboa Park BART and Muni stations.

Some sad news from the SFMTA today.  SFMTA Board Director Cameron Beach died last night after apparently suffering a heart attack. A semi-retired transportation consultant and former chief operating officer of the Sacramento Regional Transit District, Beach was 62. He had served just over four years on the SFMTA Board.

The SF Board of Supervisors Rules Committee approved the nomination of transit advocate Joél Ramos to the SFMTA Board of Directors today without deliberation, and his final confirmation is expected by the full board on Tuesday.

The SFMTA Board last week approved a $32 million, six-year contract (PDF) with AnseldoBreda to repair and rebuild seven damaged light-rail vehicles, including four LRVs described as "piles of rubble." At least one board director, however, Malcolm Heinicke, wanted to know if the agency would be better off buying new LRVs, instead of spending all that money to repair damaged cars.

An SFMTA task force charged with figuring out how to fully restore last May's Muni service cuts is narrowing its list of actions and strategies to reduce travel time on the system, and bus stop consolidation, or "optimization," is likely to be adopted as a recommendation. As Streetsblog has reported, stop optimization could greatly improve service, a move long pushed by transit advocates and SFMTA staff as one of the quickest and cheapest ways to speed Muni.
